Reform Second in Headline Voting Intentions Says Opinium

 Opinium has published its latest poll for The Observer.

When it comes to headline voting intentions, whilst 29% of those questioned said they would vote Labour, Reform come second with 24% of those polled saying they would vote for Nigel Farage’s party.  23% opted for the Conservatives, with 10% going for the Liberal Democrats.

When it comes to approval ratings for key political leaders, Keir Starmer has a net rating of -33, compared to the Conservative Leader, Kemi Badenoch on -13 and Nigel Farage on -9. The Liberal Democrat Leader, Ed Davey, has a net satisfaction rating of +2. Meanwhile the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has a net approval rating of -30 with 49% of those polled being dissatisfied with the way she is doing her job, and just 19% approving.

Asked who they felt would make the best Prime Minister, 26% said Keir Starmer compared to 16% opting for Kemi Badenoch. 42% said neither of them.

Questioned about the degree to which they approved or not of the way various parties had responded to the grooming gangs issue, whilst the current Labour Government had a net approval rating of -17, the last Conservative Government got a net rating of -27. The current Conservative Opposition has a net rating of -11 on the issue, with the founder of Twitter (now X), Elon Musk, on -19.

47% of those questioned said they found Elon Musk’s recent comments criticising the Government and Keir Starmer’s handling of grooming gangs to be unhelpful with just 26% saying they felt they had been helpful.

Given the extent of discussion about Elon Musk’s impact on politics, 53% of those questioned said he had a negative impact on British Politics, compared to 12% saying he had a positive impact. When it comes to US politics, 42% said he had had a negative impact on politics in America, compared to 12% saying he had had a positive impact.

Meanwhile, just 27% of people said they approve of the Labour Government’s handling of the NHS, compared to 35% who disapprove. When it comes to adult social care, just 17% approve of the Government’s handling of it, compared to 33% who disapprove.
